To make your own wearable controller, you will need an Arduino (we recommend the Bluetooth Arduino, to allow full freedom of movement!), sensors, and our open-source Arduino2OSC application.

  1. See our step-by-step tutorial on how to make the VShield on Instructables. The VShield is an Arduino shield that will allow you to connect many different types of sensors: bend sensors, piezo mics, linear potentiometers (ribbon sliders), etc. to the Arduino microcontroller.
  2. Attach the sensors to your jacket or other wearable. This slideshow presentation outlines some of the techniques we used to create a modular sensor system.
  3. Download the Arduino2OSC application here. If you do not have Max/MSP, you can still use the program! Either download the Max/MSP runtime from Cycling 74 or download the compiled application for Mac OS X.
  4. Configure the Arduino2OSC application to send OSC messages to your favorite audio or visual program. We have included an Arduino2OSC preset for Resolume Avenue.
